Ultramag join forces with Rapid Welding

Ultramag have joined forces with Rapid Welding to support their new Welding Warrior competition, donating a prize fund of £60 worth of M&S vouchers.

By simply sharing a picture of your best welding work or latest welding project, you could be in with a chance of winning. The first winner of 2020 has already been chosen.

The next Welding Warrior competition has already been launched on Rapid’s Facebook page. To take part, visit: https://www.facebook.com/RapidWelding/

2020, The year ahead…

We are expecting another very busy year here at Ultramag, with audit’s to ISO 17020 for it’s Welding Surveillance department and to ISO 17025 for it’s mechanical testing facility.

In June, Ultramag will be exhibiting again at Seawork, in Southampton, where we will demonstrate NDT of materials and some advanced testing techniques.

Ultramag will also be involved in two industry working groups focusing on the inspection and testing of composites and the NDT of Heritage Railway Boilers.

Ultramag successfully pass the ISO 14001 audit

Last week, Ultramag successfully passed the ISO 14001 audit, with no Recommendations. We have been working towards this for several years are delighted to have achieved our goal.

In September we were successful with our re-approval by Bureau Veritas for performing Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement surveys to their vessels and marine structures.

Over the next 12 months we shall be investing in several Advanced N.D.T. techniques; with Computed Radiographic Testing (C.R.T.) already being used by our radiographers.

Thank you – Seawork 2019

Thank you to everyone that visited our stand at Seawork 2019 last week. We had lots of interest in our new Computed Radiographic equipment, thickness meters and corrosion mapping equipment.

Ultramag will be back at Seawork in 2020!

Successful U.K.A.S. audit to ISO 17020

Another successful U.K.A.S. audit to ISO 17020, passed in March. Under our U.K.A.S. Accreditation, as an Inspection Body Ultramag carries out Welding Procedure Qualification and Welder Qualification Tests, followed by N.D.T.

For Welder Qualification Tests, following welding surveillance we carry out Fracture, Macro and Bend Testing at our Rushington facility, assuring a quick turnaround.

Our Apprentices are well into their Non-Destructive and Mechanical Testing programs following the B.I.N.D.T. Operator and Engineering Technician Standards.

Recent CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector course successfully passed by our Operations Co-ordinator and new Apprentice

Alex Bidwell passed the CSWIP 3.0 course in October, and has attended an NDT Appreciation course earlier in the year in Sheffield.

Alex has been with Ultramag for five years and is very keen to learn more about NDT and weld testing.

Our new Apprentice, Joe Hall, also passed the CSWIP 3.0 course, as he starts his Apprenticeship with Ultramag. Next year Joe will attend the PCN Visual Testing course in Sheffield, along with several mechanical testing courses over a three year period.

Ultramag has just started to provide training for a ‘Day Release’ student from Southampton City College; for a 50 week period. This will give the selected student a good insight into non-destructive testing and mechanical testing and work ethics in an engineering environment.
