Non Destructive Testing Services

Ultramag provide specialist non destructive testing services, welding co-ordination as an independent inspection body and mechanical testing services which include hardness, dimensional and acid etch, pressure testing, and alloy verification. Nearly all mechanical tests are carried out by ourselves but some other forms of mechanical testing will have to be submitted to a UKAS laboratory for an independent analysis. Almost all of our equipment is portable so we are able to offer an in- house or mobile service.

Dye Penetrant Inspection

Dye Penetrant Inspection will detect surface breaking flaws only, and can be used on magnetic and non-magnetic materials.

Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic Particle Inspection can be performed as either a black and white or fluorescent technique on magnetic materials only, and will find surface and slightly sub-surface flaws.

Visual Inspection

Visual Inspection is the oldest method of Non-Destructive Testing. Visual examination of any surface contamination can provide essential information about certain flaws that may be present..

Marine Structures and Hull Surveys

A specialised area of the Companies work is the surveying of ship structures. Surveys are undertaken both internally and externally, and may be carried out whilst the ship is in dry dock or at sea, with detailed reports produced on completion.

Pressure Testing

Ultramag have 30 years experience in Pressure Testing. We are currently able to achieve pressures of up to 60,000 PSI hydraulically and up to 10,000 PSI pneumatically using air driven test pumps.

Radiographic inspection

Radiographic testing is typically performed on welds, forgings and castings for the detection of volumetric defects, it is carried out using Gamma Rays or X-Rays. It can also be carried out on composite materials.

Ultrasonic inspection

Ultrasonic Flaw Detection testing is used to test many materials, from alloys to metals to plastics and on varying configurations from pipe work welds to forgings and raw material.

Eddy Current Testing

Eddy Current Testing is excellent for surface flaw detection. It is an ideal technique for inspection programs and is used frequently in the inspection of fairground and amusement rides - click here for more info
